What is remote interpreting?

Remote interpreting means an interpretation situation where at least one of the parties is physically located in a different place while maintaining a video and/or voice connection with the other parties.

Remote interpreting services can be provided using videoconferencing equipment, a 3G phone, or a broadband connection with a webcam.

Remote interpreting provides customers with an opportunity for independent management of their daily affairs in their own language, increasing both the independence and equality of the customer. Remote interpreting is best suited for brief transactions. Possible examples include booking an appointment, healthcare-related communications, and communications with authorities.

The demand for interpreter services cannot always be met on short notice. When part of the interpreting services is implemented through remote interpreting, the available resources can be put to effective use.
